The Golden Age of Wireless

Thomas Dolby was quite ahead of his time coming up with the album title The Golden Age of Wireless in 1982. And although there is all this wireless technology nowadays, the age of cable-salad (as you say in German) ain´t over yet. You still need a charging unit for each of all those little mobile devices. Packing my bag (I will be on holiday tomorrow) this was the following: A recharger for my GPS Mission phone, one for my private phone, one for my other GPS device, one for my digital camera and one for my labtop. On top some more cables to conect all these machine with each other.

While packing I was reading in the paper that intel is working on a technology for wireless recharging using magnetic fields that could be implemented in tables and ceilings. The power would be transmitted through the air - they call it WiTricity and it´s based on some research done at the M.I.T. by Joshua R. Smith. The Süddeutsche quotes Justin Rattner from Intel saying that such magnetic waves would not harm humans. The article just next to it was on some research finding out that a lot of animals sense of orientation works via magnetic fields.

Well, until the Golden Age of Wireless really starts I found my personal solution to fight cable-salad.

Re: The Golden Age of Wireless

Reading an article on it in English I just learned that cable-salat translates power-cord spaghetti.
